The 9 circles of Dante's *Inferno*

Dante’s imagining of hell is a conical hole in the ground divided into nine circles, each corresponding to a particular sin.

The sins are more serious as the circles descend, with the worst at the bottom.

This is a more general presentation of Dante’s Hell. A single sin is punished in each of the upper circles (1-6). The lower circles are subdivided into different types of the general sin punished there: the 7th circle into three parts, the 8th into ten, the 9th into four.
